September Empties

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - Posted by Unknown at 5:48 PM

Method Limited Edition Sunset Beach Hand Wash 12 oz. - This is a stretch on "September". I'm not sure when it got used up but I think it was months ago and I found it and realized it had missed the last post. Oops. I continue to buy Method soaps despite the SLS I would like to be avoiding because they smell so good!

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Hand Soap Basil Scent 12.5 oz. - This is the one I did use up in September. I think these have cleaner ingredients than the Method soaps and I love the Basil scent. I also use a lot of household cleaning products from both of these brands.

Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser with Clary Sage 6 oz. - I took the end of this camping and finished it off. I really wanted a cream cleanser for hydration. I was using a pretty drying pink clay cleanser before this one so I really noticed the difference. I got a good deal on this on Amazon and while I don't feel like I definitely need this one again I might get it again. This was a relatively gentle cleanser but I might find another one that is more hydrating.

Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleansing Towelettes with Cotton Extract 30 Towelettes - I keep buying these. I think it's almost impossible to find a cleansing towelette that has absolutely NO irritation, but these generally are comfortable and they are inexpensive. I have 3 more of these waiting for me right now!

Real Purity Roll-On Deodorant 1 oz. - Holy grail deodorant. I took 3 of these travel size deodorants to China and this is one of those. Over time my body does get used to the formula and I try something else for awhile but I always come back to this one!

Trader Joe's Anticavity Peppermint Toothpaste 6 oz. - I don't love the flavor of this but I keep buying it because I go to TJ's a lot! It's also inexpensive compared to many other natural toothpastes.

Pur Minerals Big Look Mascara with Argan Oil .12 oz. - I retired this one after about a month. I really liked the way this mascara looked on me after a second coat but after about a month the formula started to irritate me. I never know how long a mascara will work for me but I rarely can go a whole 3 months. I would probably try this one again at some point.

Silk Naturals Slick Stick Bramble, Silk Naturals Velvet Matte Lipstick Merlot, Real Purity Pearl Mocha Powder Blush, Gourmet Body Treats Natural Eye Shadow Gun Metal Gray

Silk Naturals Slick Stick Bramble - I absolutely adore this light wearable lavender gloss. It is beautiful and I would definitely repurchase it. This tube got pretty grainy and separated at this end as I hadn't worn it in awhile. Noticing this inspired me to search through my Silk Naturals colors and clean out the old ones!

Silk Naturals Velvet Matte Lipstick Merlot - This wasn't used up so much as the tube stopped advancing. Silk Naturals quickly sent me a replacement tube!

Real Purity Pearl Mocha Powder Blush .2 oz. - I'm always kind of amazed when I actually finish a powder cosmetic product because it happens so rarely. This has been my favorite blush for so long. I have a lot of blush right now so I won't repurchase right away, but I will definitely get another in the future. This is the most perfect light pink color that goes with everything and can't be overdone.

Samples:

Gourmet Body Treats Natural Eye Shadow Gun Metal Gray - I've had this sample forever. It is a sparkly buildable gray. I have never tried anything else from this brand. I wouldn't feel the need to buy this as I have several sparkly grays. Like most dark mineral colors this got EVERYWHERE.

Giovanni Ultra-Sleek Conditioner .25 oz. Packet - I took this sample camping just to have a conditioner. It worked fine but I don't feel the need to buy this one.

Acure Cleansing Gel Facial Cleanser - This one felt fine but it is for normal to oily skin so I would probably choose something more hydrating.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub - I still love this stuff! It manages to make my skin feel ridiculously soft without over-scrubbing or irritating as long as I don't use it too often.

Acure Night Cream - This was very nice and hydrating. I would definitely consider this in the future. Loving Acure more and more all the time!

February & March Empties

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 - Posted by Unknown at 9:49 PM
My February empties were so minimal I saved them for March, which works out because the March ones were pretty minimal too!

February:

Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleansing Towelettes 30 Towelettes - I got a deal on a bunch of these at a drugstore awhile back. I was nervous about buying Burt's Bees because they are not the most natural of brands but I have had good luck with them, which is good because I have three more packs of them at the moment. They remove makeup with minimal irritation.

Chagrin Valley Soap Lemon Lavender Soap 7 oz. - I usually buy soap in bulk, but occasionally I need a bar from Chagrin Valley. They are master soap makers! This one was quite nice, with olive ol, coconut, sunflower, cocoa butter, mango buster, and other awesome ingredients. Very moisturizing and a pleasant scent.

Pangea Organics Facial Toner Argentinean Tangerine & Thyme 2 oz. - This trial size was really intended for oily blemish-prone skin and was much too harsh for my skin, so I would not get this again.

The All Natural Face Magic Vegan Eye Shadow Primer .43 oz. - I didn't really use this up, but after a year of use I decided it was time to replace it. Currently my holy grail eye shadow primer! Already repurchased.

The All Natural Face Moisturizing Flavored Vegan Lip Gloss Peppermint .43 oz. - I used this until I got a cold, at which point I decided it was probably contaminated. The gloss was a nice consistency but I don't really like peppermint flavored things and the wand style applicator makes it too germ for me to purchase it in the future, although I do have other glosses in this style from The All Natural Face monthly boxes.

Real Purity Eyeshadow Sample Aqua - This is a vibrant teal aqua color although the color shows up best over primer. I used up this sample and already have this color in the Aqua/Peacock duo from Real Purity.

Not Pictured:

Hills Natural Soap Castille Loaf 3 lbs. - This is my go-to castille soap! This was my second loaf from them. It's not pictured because I used it all up. It's creamy and dreamy. I took a couple bars of this to Italy and it works for everything. I can even use it as a face wash for short periods of time. I haven't repurchased yet but definitely will.

Chagrin Valley Soap Ayurvedic Herb Natural Shampoo Bar 1.7 oz. - This is the shampoo bar I order the most from Chagrin Valley. I always order the small sizes and they last me ages. Of the Chagrin Valley bars this is the one that seems to be the most calming for my crazy irritated scalp.

March:

Method French Lavender Hand Wash 12 oz. - I always plan on not buying these anymore due to the SLS... and then somehow they end up in my bathroom. I love Method scents but I probably won't buy the Lavender again because David really dislikes the scent of lavender.

R. L. Linden & Co. Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist .5 oz. - This is a seriously decadent toner. I would use this all the time if I could but it is pretty expensive. There's still a good chance I will get this in the future. It is the most amazing floral scent and I really do believe that the scent is calming.

Silk Naturals Apricot Cleansing Oil 4 oz. - I think this was too old to really decide how I feel about it.  I've already purchased another cleansing oil so I probably won't get this again.

Squiggle Tooth Builder Sensitive Toothpaste 4 oz. - I like this toothpaste and will probably repurchase. It's a bit expensive for a toothpaste but if it can replace my Sensodyne I will keep getting it!

Lucy Minerals Sea Glass Eye shadow sample - I absolutely adore this light shimmery slate blue color. It's striking on the eyes especially paired with dark berry lips! Unfortunately I haven't seen it for sale on the Lucy Minerals website so I'm not sure if it is still available for purchase.

Ecotools Bronzer Brush - How do you use up a bronzer brush? I've been using this one for several years and at some point I think the handle must have gotten too wet and... I'm worried the integrity of the brush has been compromised. Will replace in the future!

In the Mail: Petit Vour Holiday Limited Edition Box

Sunday, January 4, 2015 - Posted by Unknown at 11:00 AM
This is my first box from Petit Vour. I don't subscribe to Petit Vour but when I saw this box I got very excited. I was particularly excited to try the Jing Ai products. The cost of the box was $45 and the Jing Ai Sierra Glow Duo with Kabuki brush alone would have cost more than the price of this box, so I felt it was well worth it to try my first Petit Vour box! I was also excited to try some new brands as I had never tried any products from any of these brands before!

Here's a breakdown of the items in the box:

Aster & Bay Dandelion Face Grains: This is made with Frankincense and Myrrh! I received a 1 oz. bottle of this. You can buy a full size 4 oz. bottle here for $30 so I am estimating the value of this is $7.50. I am looking forward to trying this especially as I am transitioning back to oil cleansing and I think this will work well along with that.

Georgie Beauty Bon Ton Faux Eyelashes and Clear Adhesive: Ok, I haven't tried faux eyelashes in years. I will try these because I have them, but they definitely were not the reason I bought this box. These lashes can be purchased here for $18 and the glue is $8.

Gressa Lip Boost Aux Rouge: I am very excited about trying this product! Gressa Lip Boost's retail for $26. You can purchase the full size here. The full size is .24 oz. The Lip Boost I received is .17 oz. and looks like it will last a very long time, so it is only a bit smaller than the full size.  I will be using this product with a lip brush since in comes in a pot. This product has very nice color payoff especially for a lip product created by a skincare company! Some of the reviews on the website suggest using it as a blush as well, so I will be trying that too!

Jing Ai Sierra Glow Duo Piccadilly and Kabuki Brush - The Glow Duo is $28 and the Kabuki brush is $22. I am so excited about these products! The powder is beautifully packaged. The colors look great separately and mixed together. The powder is very soft and blendable and the brush is the softest Kabuki I have ever tried. The blush comes with a little paper filled with seeds that can be planted. The Sierra Glow Duo can be purchased here.

Gressa Lip Boost Aux Rouge, Ging Ai Sierra Glow Duo Piccadilly: pure side, love side, both sides mixed together.

One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Oil: I'm not sure if I'm going to use this because it is primarily made of shea oil and butter, which I can sometimes be sensitive to. The full size of this is $58 for 4 oz. I am not sure what size the sample is but I would guess 1/3 to 1/2 oz. Will probably pass this on to David. You can buy this here.

R. L. Linden & Co. Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist: I will try this as a toner. The really exciting thing about this product is that it offers aromatherapy benefits and relief from anxiety. Definitely an unexpected bonus in something I would use as a toner! The full size is $48 for 3.4 oz. To me that is pretty expensive for toner. The bottle I have is .5 oz. and I am looking forward to trying it. You can purchase this product here.

Overall I am really glad I purchased this box. In an effort to save money I try to avoid subscribing to beauty boxes because you never know what you are getting, but this box was great because I knew what I was purchasing. I wouldn't have chosen all of these products individually but the products I was most interested in are outstanding and now I get to try several other things, so I am very happy with my purchase. Unfortunately this box is currently sold out. I originally purchased it here. This definitely makes me want to try more things from Petit Vour but... I really need to buy a car, so.
